Job Summary:

The Application Sales Engineer (ASE) is responsible to sell and implement Messer's value-added technical solutions to customers in the chemistry, energy, and environmental markets. The ASE acts as a technical expert who positions the value of Messer's solutions to differentiate from competitive solutions. By working in a defined geographic territory, the ASE works closely with the sales team to sign new business and grow Messer's sales and profits.

Working with the Project Execution team, ASEs are also responsible for the implementation of the technical solution at the customer site. In addition, the ASEs act as subject matter experts and through deep customer insight provide valuable input into the development of new markets and technologies.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Grow the sales of industrial gas products by promoting the adoption of Messer technical solutions at new and existing customers in the chemical, energy and environmental markets.
  • Act as the technical expert that can identify customer's current and future needs, clearly articulate technical details, and differentiate the value of Messer's solution from competitive offers.
  • With the Account Manager, drives the sales process from opportunity qualification, design of technical solution, determination of value creation, understanding of customer/prospect feedback regarding solution, support in development of solution cost, proposal development and deal signing to win new business.
  • Support the Account Manager to negotiate acceptable commercial terms.
  • Maintain the existing customer base through customer process knowledge and technical expertise and assists in relationship selling.
  • Responsible for obtaining insight regarding industry trends and opportunities for development of new application technologies or improvement of existing equipment.
  • Build relationships with multiple functions (e.g., operations, maintenance, engineering) in prospect/customer organizations.
  • Develop and employ industry networking (e.g., industry players, complimentary equipment/service providers, academics) to enhance Messer visibility and performance.
  • Conduct customer process audits and collecting relevant customer data in order to develop the technical solution design with the Applications Equipment Engineering team.
  • Implement technical solutions at the customer site in conjunction with the Project Execution team and conduct relevant safety training and awareness activities.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, writing and listening skills.
  • Ability to influence and engage at multiple levels and with key functions within customer/prospect organizations as well as within Messer. (e.g., operations, engineering, maintenance, and senior management)
  • Identify decision-makers and influencers and engage appropriately.
  • Strong Problem solving and analytical skills. Candidate is quick on their feet and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Petroleum or Environmental preferred)
  • Minimum five years of experience selling technical solutions in a manufacturing environment
  • Travel required around 50%.
