The Contracts Associate will handle Subsidiary Rights licensing agreements for the various publishers in the Macmillan Trade group of publishers, including Celadon Books, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, Picador, Flatiron Books, Henry Holt & Co., Metropolitan Books, St. Martin's Publishing Group, Tor, and the Macmillan Children's Publishing Group.

The Associate will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and processing a high volume of license agreements including UK, translation, audio, serial, educational, and reprint licenses; coordinate review and approval of licenses with sub-agents and licensee publishers; track and process licenses through all stages; maintain license data and archives; assist with securing license payments.

The ideal candidate will be diligent and motivated, actively engaged in learning about publishing from the contracts and licensing side of the business, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and great attention to detail.

The Associate will be an integral partner in the execution and completion of license agreements, and will liaise with a wide variety of stakeholders, from the Sub-rights, Contracts, Editorial and Royalty teams in house, to our numerous sub-agents and licensee publishers worldwide.

What you'll do:

  • Draft and review a variety of subsidiary rights license agreements including UK, translation, audio, serial, educational, and reprint licenses;
  • Assist with negotiation of certain license terms;
  • Coordinate review and approval of licenses with sub-agents and licensee publishers;
  • Interpret author contract details (sub-rights granted, territories, author approvals) as related to license agreements;
  • Manage electronic signature and completion of licenses;
  • Track license status and archive signed agreements;
  • Assist the Sub-rights Accounting team in securing payments;

  • Interested in book publishing, particularly subsidiary rights and author contracts
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office and G-Suite

Ideal Experience/Education:

  • Prior experience with subsidiary rights agreements, author contracts, permissions licensing, or other drafting or license experience in publishing, media or related field required;
  • Familiarity with Biblio3 Suite and/or Bradbury Phillips Rights Manager a plus;
  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience required;

This role will have an annual salary of $60,000 - $65,000.
