Overview

As an entry level position, the Fire Extinguisher Technician plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and protection of individuals and properties by inspecting, servicing, maintaining, repairing, and installing portable fire extinguishing equipment and extinguishers. The primary responsibilities include coordinating with the Inspection Manager, conducting thorough inspections, and executing necessary repairs to ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

Responsibilities

Inspection and Maintenance:

    Conduct routine inspections of fire extinguishers to ensure functionality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Dismantle and examine mechanical parts, extinguishing agents, and expelling means to identify any defects or malfunctions.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts to maintain the effectiveness of fire extinguishers.
  • Clean extinguishers to remove any contaminants or buildup that may hinder performance.
  • Recharge extinguishers with approved materials as needed to ensure readiness for use in emergencies.

Repair and Installation:

  • Perform necessary repairs on fire extinguishers to restore functionality and reliability.
  • Install new fire extinguishing equipment and extinguishers as required, adhering to installation guidelines and safety protocols.

Coordination and Communication:

  • Collaborate with the Inspection Manager to ensure availability of materials required for inspections and repairs.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and clients to coordinate work schedules and provide updates on project status.
  • Assist in safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards or compliance issues.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain fire extinguishers property-wide in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, including NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) guidelines.
  • Ensure that all inspectors and repairs are conducted with the highest quality standards to meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Demonstrate the ability to work on feet for extended periods, including walking, climbing machinery and stairs.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 60 lbs. as necessary to perform job duties effectively.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Certification as a Fire Extinguisher Technician or willingness to obtain certification within one year.
  • Prior experience in fire extinguisher inspection, maintenance, and repair preferred.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations, including NFPA guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks requiring moderate to heavy lifting and manual dexterity.
  • Will be required to obtain a Georgia and South Carolina license.
