Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) for NJMS- Division of Infectious Diseases. This position is responsible for providing primary care, managing health problems and coordinating health care for persons living with or at risk of HIV at the Infectious Disease Practice in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations, nursing standards of care, clinic and DHHS guidelines. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, including women's reproductive and sexual health care, ordering and interpreting lab tests, medications management, referrals to specialty care as medically appropriate and coordination of patient care with a diverse team of individuals. Consults with physician as needed. Additionally, the APN will be responsible for assisting clinic operations and being a key resource for nurses and ambulatory care technicians.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes.
  • Sets priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflects evidence-based practice and costeffective management of time, available human resources, supplies and equipment.
  • Facilitates the patient's transition of care within and between health care settings, e.g., admitting, nursing homes, home care, correctional facilities, etc.
  • Provides emergency treatments and initiates emergency life saving measures per guidelines.
  • Meets all the requirements of the practice agreement with the collaborating physician(s) under the regulations and requirements of the New Jersey.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a licensed independent practitioner.
  • Successful completion of a master's level Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of New Jersey.
  • Must maintain BLS (CPR).
  • At least five years of experience as a nurse in clinical setting.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of LGBT health-related concerns.
  • Excellent phlebotomy and physical assessment skills are essential.
  • Must exhibit cultural sensitivity to working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills required.
  • Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office components.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with adult populations with HIV/AIDS and other infectious diseases is highly preferred.
  • Women's Health experience preferred.
