The Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration with facility administrator, allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. Collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.

Responsibilities
    Provides considerate respectful care focused upon the Residents' individual needs.
  • Affirms the Resident's right to make decisions regarding his/her medical care, including the decision to discontinue treatment, to the extent permitted by law.
  • Demonstrates the ability to obtain information and interpret information in terms of the needs of the age of the Residents cared for.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the range of care needed based on the age of the Residents cared for.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth, development and/or adult health throughout the life span as appropriate to the job performed.
  • Successfully completes life-span education as appropriate.
  • Establishes and implements standards of care and evaluates resident care through the application of the nursing process and compares the delivery of the care to the established standard(s).
  • Plans and facilitates unit based education to maintain and enhance the clinical competency of the nursing staff.
  • Establishes and implements standards of care regarding pain management of Residents as it relates to assessments, interventions, follow-up, reassessment and education to resident/family.
  • Provides on-going effective communication with residents/families, other departments, physicians and off-site providers.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Nursing Required
  • Minimum three years related nursing experience required.
  • At least three years supervisory experience in an Assisted Living setting required.
  • Experience with Certified Medication Assistant program required.
  • RN License / New Jersey Required
  • BLS certification Required
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of long term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required.
  • Knowledge of current federal and state laws and regulations that apply to the practice of nursing in a long-term care setting.
  • Must possess time management skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities.
  • Ability to make presentations before top management, public groups, and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
