The Center for Home Care Policy & Research at VNS Health is looking to hire a part-time field interviewer to assist an ongoing, multi-year study examining the long-term psychosocial development, quality of life and well-being of transgender and nonbinary (TGNB). Participants will be recruited from patients who are part of the Gender Affirming Program (GAP) at VNS Health Known as the GAP study - the project is a longitudinal, prospective study that uses mixed quantitative and qualitative methodologies. It is being conducted in collaboration with a team at Columbia University School of Nursing (CUSON). The research interviewer will recruit participant patients into the GAP study and conduct survey interviews. The position offers current students an opportunity to get hands-on experience with conducting primary data collection for health services research studies, with a specific focus on transgender health and home care-centric research. What You Will Do

• Telephones potential study subjects (e.g., VNS Health patients, staff) to solicit cooperation for research study participation, provides information and answers questions about protocol process.
• Prescreens study subjects via the telephone using a structured questionnaire or other data collection tool(s).
• Schedules appointments for in-home interviews and/or telephone interviews with eligible study subjects and conducts follow up interviews, as needed per specific study protocol.
• Travels to study participants' homes and/or other facilities with varying environments (e.g., elevated buildings, walk-ups, care facilities, single/multiple family homes, presence of pets, etc.) using approved transportation options to conduct personal interviews with study subjects.
• Collects body and fluid specimens and tests study participant vital signs (e.g., blood pressure), as needed per specific study protocol.
• Keeps detailed records of study subject contact and interview information in a logical and organized format.
• Follows appropriate informed consent procedures and adheres to guidelines for research involving human subjects.
• Participates in training and on-going efforts to ensure data integrity. Reviews data collection instruments for completeness and accuracy before submitting to project staff. Responds in a timely manner when notified of problems with instruments or interviewing techniques.
• Transports and utilizes required medical equipment and supplies using VNS Health designated carrying case weighing approximately 25 - 30 lbs. to and from study participant homes/care facilities, VNS Health offices and other locations, as needed per specific study protocol.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid drivers license as determined by operational/regional needs Required

Education:

• High School Diploma or equivalency Required
• Bachelor's Degree in health care, social services or social sciences Preferred

Work Experience:

• Prior experience working in a health care setting, home care or geriatrics Preferred
• Candidates will also have prior interviewing experience and strong communication skills Preferred
• Excellent customer service and organizational skills required, along with the ability to work autonomously without direct day-to-day supervision Required
• Candidates must also have access to a personal computer with internet access to receive daily communications from research group Required
• Must be self-motivated to set own work schedule and interviews with patients Required
