Job Overview

The Pipefitter, Maintenance installs or repairs water, steam, gas or other types of pipe and pipefittings. Work involves most of the following: laying out work and measuring to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications; cutting various sizes of pipe to correct lengths with chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch or pipe-cutting machines; threading pipe with stocks and dies, bending pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines; assembling pipe with couplings and fastening pipe to hangers; making standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required; and making standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications. In general, the work of the maintenance pipefitter requires rounded training and experience usually acquired through a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties & Job Functions:
  • Perform a variety of pipefitting trade functions such as installing, maintaining, and repairing water, steam, gas fuel, or other types of pipe and pipefitting according to specifications and plumbing code.
  • Lay out work and measure to locate position of pipe from drawings or other written specifications.
  • Make standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow and size of pipe required. Make standard tests to determine whether finished pipes meet specifications.
  • Cut and thread pipe using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and threading machines. Bend pipe to required angle using bending machine or by hand.
  • Completes NFPA compliance and PM maintenance of Picatinny fire pump systems.
  • Follow established safety procedures and utilize safety protective equipment and clothing that pertains to particular trades and skills.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping practices are observed.
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Supervisor/Lead.
  • Perform duties in a timely, cost-effective manner.
  • Work closely and harmoniously with fellow workers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with customers, supervisors, and fellow workers.
  • Maintain and operate company vehicles and/or tools and equipment in compliance with company policy.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, administrative, and security rules, policies, and regulations of the customer and the company.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Mandatory:
  • US Citizen.
  • Possesses and maintains a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two plus years' experience at journeyman pipefitter/plumber level.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual work related to job duties and tasks.
  • General knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain government identification/common access card.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
  • May be required to pass drug screen and background check.
