Editorial Internship for Fire Engineering Magazine and Website

For more than 140 years, Fire Engineering magazine has provided training, education, and management information for fire and emergency services personnel worldwide. Articles are written by experts in the fire service and focus on lessons learned.
Feature articles cover real-life situations such as collapse void search, confined space rescue, high-angle rescue, and extrication. Regular magazine departments focus on education and management issues.

The online version of Fire Engineering provides daily international business and industry-related news. It also contains current issue articles, and access to years of searchable editorial archives. Check the calendar of events for the next FDIC International, industry-related conference, or refer to the Product Guide for vendor, product and service information.

Editorial intern will learn about and contribute to:

The editorial process for a magazine with a 147-year history.
The connection between print and online content.
Repurposing/writing content pulled from our extensive archives.
Identifying social media-worthy content.
Archiving and tagging content for multiple websites and print magazines (Fire Engineering and Fire Apparatus & Emergency Equipment).
Administrative aspects of completing a monthly magazine.
Other aspects of the Fire & Rescue Group as time allows!

What we're looking for:

Strong writing, research, and proofreading skills
Communicative
Some writing/editing experience (This internship may be of the highest interest to journalism and communications majors, but we are open to considering any major who fits the description above and is interested in learning!)

Schedule/time requirement:
25-29 hours per week
10 weeks
$16/hr
Availability to come into our Rochelle Park, NJ, office once a week
