Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College Arts & Design Department is seeking a qualified adjunct instructor to teach one or more of the Foundation courses: Drawing, 2D Design, and Color Theory. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of traditional and contemporary art practices, a strong portfolio of both professional and student work, and a strong commitment to fostering creativity and critical thinking skills among students. In addition to teaching during scheduled class time, other job requirements will include preparing course materials, providing instruction and addressing student concerns via CANVAS and/or e-mail outside of class time, and assessing student work throughout the semester.

Essential Duties:

Teach one or more of the following Foundation studio art courses at the college level: Drawing, 2D Design and Color Theory.

Provide individual and group critiques to students, offering constructive feedback and guidance to enhance their technical skills, artistic vision, and working knowledge of the elements and principles of art/design.

Mentor and inspire students to develop their own artistic voice while exploring various media, techniques, and conceptual approaches to art making.

Remain current on trends and developments in the contemporary art world and regarding pedagogy as it relates to teaching in the field of visual arts, and incorporate relevant content into the curriculum.

Collaborate with colleagues in the Arts & Design Department to contribute to the overall advancement of the program, including participation in the biennial Faculty Exhibition and annual Student Art Exhibition.

Provide academic advisement and support to students, including assistance with portfolio development, transfer opportunities and applications, exhibition opportunities, and career guidance.


Requirements:

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in a related field (or equivalent professional experience) is required.

Minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience with a record of effective instruction and student engagement.

Demonstrated expertise in Drawing, 2D Design, and Painting, with a strong portfolio showcasing technical proficiency and a unique artistic vision.

Familiarity with a range of traditional and digital art-making media, tools, and techniques.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively connect with a diverse student population.
