Job Description

Under the direction of the University Engineer, the Advanced Metering Infrastructure Manager is responsible for the development, deployment and ongoing operations of the AMI system. The position supports high level performance of meter data management (MDM), data analytics, demand response and energy efficiency. Due to the critical nature of the utility systems, the manager must be on-site during regular working hours, major projects and emergency response events.

Job Functions/Core responsibilities:
  • Contributes to successful performance of central utility systems for campus steam, chilled water, domestic water, storm water, sanitary sewage and associated infrastructure
  • Monitor the health of the AMI systems and components ensuring that they are performing and as designed to provide critical data for utility cost and consumption reporting
  • Analyzes meter data and events provided by various head end systems Building Automation, OSI Soft, EnergyCAP to identify trends, abnormal operating characteristics, and develop corrective actions
  • Verify the integrity and availability of all metering hardware, communication systems, and key processes.
  • Works with Utilities Analyst and Energy Manager to evaluate utility billings and meter data
  • Technically involved in the resolution of equipment and operational problems which includes performing field investigation or inspections
  • Provide meter data reporting capabilities to internal and external groups as needed through SQL queries, stored procedures, reports, and views. Support staff using the AMI system(s), raising to vendor support if necessary
  • Prepare and interpret schematics, drawings, layouts and other visual aids. Prepares engineering analysis for small/routine projects to include preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection
  • Develops guidelines and standards for meter selection, configuration, and installation
  • Consults with external entities regarding new meter installation and configuration
  • Implement a metering maintenance program which will assure accurate measurements
  • Lead the preparation and periodic recovery testing of disaster recovery plans
  • Respond promptly by phone or in person as appropriate to emergency situations and therefore must be available 24/7 or as required

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree - preferably in technical field or equivalent related field experience desired.
  • Five years of experience in utility metering infrastructure or building automation preferred
  • Demonstrated experience integrating metering information with data historian, utility billing, or energy management systems
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of the organization regarding a variety of relevant issues
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, goals and objectives.

  • Ability to maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations and/or individuals
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail; keep and maintain accurate and detailed reports and records
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to understand and follow strategic direction from divisional leadership
  • Able to travel across campus for meetings and utility related work
